Hoopia

So, I decided to ask one of my closest friend, Hoopia to see if she is interested in being part of my blog and to ask her several questions. She conversed with me by sending gifs and I am so excited to ask her some questions since I have come prepared (insert evil face emoji). I’ve known her for almost 5 years or so and we used to be roommates (She literally corrected me on how many years we’ve known each other and I was stuck with “3 years” (facepalm) This upcoming August will be the 5th year we’ve known each other. I know, I’m horrible with math). To this day, she is one of the people who I have to cherish our friendship. I hope you guys enjoy this interesting interview 🙂

It took us a few minutes to actually get into the questions because we cannot be serious together when it comes to something like this, hahaha.

What can you tell me about yourself?

(a live image of her holding her laughter behind her hand and trying to take seriously with my first question. She wiped her laughing tears)

What do you want them to know about you?

One, I think every little thing is funny. Two, I am very stubborn. Three, I can be very lazy which is why the cat is my animal spirit. I like electronic music. A LOT.  (She mentioned her ethnicity and I had to stop her because that was my next question).

What is your ethnicity?

I’m Romanian but I am the first generation American, so I’m Romanian-American. (gave me that look that states there you go).

This might be interesting. This you might have to think a little. Since you already watch Games of Throne; which house would you belong to in GOT. Like very honestly.

Wait, I need help. (she list 4) Stark, Lannister (which I won’t!), Targaryen, Greyjoy. Baratheon. (we discussed the list of the houses and their sigils in GOT for like 5 minutes). Well, okay. In between two houses, Stark and Targaryen.

Okay, if it only these two: House of Stark and Hosue of Targaryen. Which house do you feel like you belong to?

I would pick house of Stark because of Arya. I feel connected to Arya because she doesn’t fit in with the gender role of women. She disguised herself as a man, dressed as a man. I would join the house of Stark because of that. And she breaks into that stereotype of women having to wear pretty dresses, can’t kill people…I’m not saying that I like to kill people because I don’t! But, she does what men can do. So, yes house of Stark. What about you?

Well, me? I would pick the house of Stark. They symbolized loyalty, the bonding of family.

And I would pick house of Stark because of Jon Snow.

True, you did have a crush on him from the beginning of the show. I didn’t until later.

Well, because of his butt later in the season? (she laughed out loud). Anyways, next question.

What do you love most about yourself?

First, I would say the first two things about myself. One is my hair, my curly hair. I used to HATE my hair when I was little. But now as I get older, I learned to appreciate my hair so much.

It’s evolution, the changing. Your hair is curly, and now you know what to do to tame that hair.

Tame that mane. T H A T. (I struggled with that phrase a few times).

Second, some people will say this as a bad thing but I think if you use it right, it can be a good thing. I like my stubbornness. What I mean by that is if I believe in something, I am persistent with it. Or I don’t let people put pressure on me. If they kept nagging at me, my stubbornness prevents that as it “Stop!” Especially with family nagging me, like “leave me alone!”

I would never think stubbornness can be a good thing because I always thought it was a bad thing.

It’s both bad and good thing. True.

When you were little, what did you want to be?

EMT. I want to be an Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic), yeah since 2nd grade. I remember in 2nd grade, I decided to become an ambulance paramedic.

What makes you decided that young to become EMT?

I don’t know. I don’t remember a specific event. I just remember 2nd grade that I decided that I’m going to become an ambulance paramedic. I think it because of medicines that make me fascinated. I look up to the medical field, like wow, medicine is a lot as in amazing. But then looking back, I didn’t change my field until freshman year of high school. That is when I decided to become a teacher.

I’ve noticed you have plants and I’m curious. What’s your favorite plant?

Let me show you. I have many that I love but, I would say two plants that I watched closely. One, I bought this plant like in April. The plant itself was very short; two or three months of growth. So, it’s very delicate. It’s so delicate that if you accidentally hit the plant, it’ll bend or fall easily. With that in mind, I care for the plant. I watch over it almost every day making sure it’s still growing and still alive. So, that’s one of my favorite plants. Another one that I bought last year from Trader Joes, it cost around 6 dollars. I’m like, “Fine, sure!” (she showed me the plant she was talking about). It used to be small. I bought it in a regular pot and I noticed that it was growing. I was little worried so I decided to go to nursery garden. I bought a pot and soil. I re-potted it and I noticed that it has grown. (laughs). That time, I re-potted it and I started noticing that it grows fast. One leaf, the first leaf that grew since I re-potted. I felt close with that first leaf (showed me which the first leaf). The first leaf was in the middle and spurt it out. I want to name it but I don’t want to feel stupid or crazy.

What are the names of the plant?

The first plant, I forgot the name of it. But the second one called Dracena. (she went to the patio to get the name for the first plant). I think it called Senecio radicans but, it is Senecio but different kind of plant. It looks the same but it’s small…OMG, I just realized that I know so much about plants now. It brings me joy! (then she shows me the alter of her plants and I was in awe. We talked a little more about plants before we move on to the next question).

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I’ve ever been given…I can’t remember every advice.

One advice that literally struck you or affects you in some ways.

Um… I can’t remember one but I’m sure there were pieces of advice that struck me but may I can share my advice that I’ve given myself this year? The one advice to myself this year and last year too, since I started grad school, is to accept every challenge. Honestly, that statement helps me a lot because if you have to go into a situation or an environment where you may or may not be comfortable. Where you are not enjoying or not, feeling not alright or not feeling positive about it. They would trick you, either you complain or you’re fine with it, accept it and learn from that. That “accepting each challenge” and learning from it helps me go through something in a situation.

Right, you won’t know what hits you unless you try it. Because with that, you can’t say, “Oh yeah, I’ve been there, or I know everything.” But how do you know that?

You have to experience it.

This is a good advice for someone who gets stuck in a situation or facing a lot of obstacles.

Or someone who is avoiding problems. Avoiding does not help.

How would your close friends describe you?

How would you describe me? (laughs). If my closest friends like my old roommates would have to describe me like you, Haya or other, my first thought is immature. You would describe me as immature. Second… (laughs)…Lazy. Like Hoopia Plop. Third, caring because I care about my friends. They mean a lot to me.

One another thing to describes you is that you’re adventurous. You tend to find something related to being active. Like hiking.

I’m independent too.

Yes, you’re independent. You’re independent yourself like you stand up for yourself. You also analyze yourself. Like hardcore. But that is a good thing because you know yourself the best.

If a genie granted you 3 wishes right now, what would you wish for?

The first wish will be living back with my roommates again. (AWH!) If not the first wish, the second will be to live close to my old roommates….this is a deep question.

That’s the point of the interview. We’re getting to know you, haha.

I know I can’t wish for materials because they won’t last long. Oh! I have a good one. I want to see Kaskade. VIP booth to see Kasade. Next to him. Food and bottle service, everything. The main important part is Kasade. The third wish will be to travel more. If I were to rub the genie in the bottle to give me this opportunity, is to give me a whole bunch of money enough to travel around the world. Honestly, like a hundred thousand to travel around the world. That is what I want.

What takes up too much of your time?

(Laughs) What takes up my time? (Laughs deeply). I think you know.

So what takes up too much of your time? There are few things I can come up with what takes up too much of your time, but you tell me.

I don’t want to admit but I have to, Netflix.

Netflix? I literally thought differently.

Like what?

Vita.

Vita?! You serious? (imitating Vita’s singing and dancing to clarify the answer)

THAT.

(laughs) That takes up my time??? Seriously?

Well, you like to replay it a lot.

(She’s lmao-ing. She knows it’s true). You’re crazy.

Not in one day but I’m pretty sure you replay the video often.

I seriously forgot what he sounds like. oh, that lolololo sound. (laughs). What else?

Cat videos.

(laughs deeply). You know what I was watching today? You will be wtf? I was watching ant colonies and they pour melting metal onto it. They took it out and blow dry it and it literally shows you what it looks like. I was fascinated. No, I’m serious. I’ll send you that link that I watched. It’s so fascinated. Holdth, let me show you. (laughs).

So you said Netflix, right? What show have you been bingeing?

Grey’s anatomy. I’m on my 13th season. It has been March..(she paused for a moment). What, 3 months?! Wow…300 episodes.

Well, that proves the show takes too much of your time.

Oh p, that means I watched 100 episodes every month (gasp). That’s a lot. So that means…Wait, hold on. (did the math) 25 episodes every week. Whaaat, I have a problem. A Netflix problem.

I’m sure you’re not the only one. I didn’t watch Netflix that hardcore.

You did last year with GOT.

That’s one show. Sure, you’re right but I was trying to catch up because I know I was behind on it.

(Laughs) And I didn’t have HBO that time.

Wait, you haven’t watch 7th season? You finished watching it right?

Yeah, I did finish watching 7th season. But that time before, everyone watched it before I even catch up.

True.

Anywoo, that’s the sum of all the questions I have all for you. Thank you for answering them. Like I said, this interview questions are interesting.

Catch a glimpse of Haya next time 🙂

How to Motivate Yourself to Clean Up Your Room

For the past few days (okay, I lied.) For the past week, I’ve procrastinated myself from cleaning up my room. Why? I just recently moved in from upstairs apartment to one-floor apartment with my parents. Let me tell you, it is H-A-R-D. I know myself that I should’ve cleaned up and gone through stuff to rid more things to save some space, but I didn’t. I tell myself every morning when I wake up and see all my stuff still on the floor, “Alright, Haya. You’ll need to figure where that stuff goes and start clearing the space on the floor.” I agonized myself every time when it comes to cleaning. Don’t get me wrong, I like to clean and like to be organized. The thoughts having my room minimized and look at these, it’s definitely not gonna be fast to get rid of things. And it’s the “watching tv while cleaning”‘s fault.

I’ve noticed that is happening with my parents. They had so many things they still keep from the old previous house we used to live in and all those things are in the garage. I know my dad isn’t the problem but mainly my mom. My sister and I were talking about this the other day and we definitely don’t want our parents to appear on a tv show called “Hoarders”.

On a serious note, It took me about 4 days and a half, I think. I felt I had so much stuff but by the end of the 4 days, it was mainly useless papers and books. I was so happy that I bought several cubby storage bins. And I was trying to make this room mine. I added few paintings that I did overtime up on the walls as well.

I still feel like I have too much stuff. Once in a while, I’ll see what I can get rid of and try to influence my parents into doing that. They need to!

So how do you motivate yourself into cleaning your room? Make a list. A list of what you need to do and what you want to do in cleaning. Divide that into possibly a day or for the weekend if you have no plans to go out anytime. Manage your time wisely. Make sure in between cleaning, you take your coffee/tea fix break, lunch break, and snack break. No distractions; avoid turning on your tv if you have one in your room. It. Will. Distracts. You. From. Cleaning. . .No phone unless you’re using your phone for Spotify or Pandora Music. Music Only! Imagine your layout of the room. Measure the size of your room, figure out where your things will go and think if it will fit. Minimize the ‘want’. Ask yourself this before you put things in the room, “Do I need this? Will I use it in the future? Will it benefits me?” So you don’t feel like you’re becoming like a hoarder and you don’t want to add more clutter in your room. Get a big trash bag. You’ll need it when it comes to shredding papers, plastic things, and expired products. Organize your shiet. Make a separate pile for you to see what to keep and what not to keep. It helps A LOT. I organized mails and I had a lot of mails in what not to keep pile.

I hope these tips help! It does for me and it is how I do it when it comes to cleaning my room. If you want to keep your room clean, start your day by cleaning up your bed. From there, you’ll have the motivation to do other things in the room :). Catch a glimpse of Haya later.

Aneela

One random morning, my roommate and I were sitting in the dining area. I asked her if she would like to be the first person for me to interview. She was like “Yeah, sure.” And so this happened…

img_3539Tell me about yourself.

Wanna know about myself?

Yes.

You know about myself.

Well, the point of this interview is the people who are reading this blog will like to know about yourself.

Okay…I grew up in San Diego. Where my family from is from Iraq. I forgot to say that I was born and raised in SD. I was born with a lot of complications and survived through multiple surgeries. I was mainstreamed throughout the school. I was bullied because I am Deaf. I bear through it even though I don’t complain about it. I love my family but I don’t get along with them due to communication. A few of my friends and mentors encouraged me to go to school which is CSUN and yeah, there you go! WAIT, go back. First move in with roommates. My first roommate moving after 29 years living with family. I got so lucky that I have amazing roommates AND I heard rumors that you guys are bad roommates But only me, I got lucky. Then after that two years, I got a BA.

What ethnicity are you?

American-Chaldean.

Describe yourself with 3 words.

Faith. Hope. Love

Woman, that is a quote.

HAHA! (walks away to the kitchen) Woman.

What is your pet peeves?

(Laughs). Nothing.

Are you sure?

Yes

Woman, what you don’t like or see in front of you.

Nothing. (facepalm). Because I know you have certain things you don’t like, but okay.

Who is your role model, and why? Someone you look up to.

Still thinking, I don’t know (eating her toast in front of me…Looking at Lance.)

Vadja. Why? He is my teacher from high school. He is also my mentor. What he did for his children and how he raises them. I look at him like wow! I want to do similar things like him. And plus he is Deaf. He teaches for 35 years. He is also the reason why I go to CSUN.

What’s the spiciest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Hot sauce. No, I’m kidding. Jalapeño. I like hot Cheetos. One time, I ate chicken wings but the sauce itself was the spiciest I ever have eaten and vowed myself not to eat them again. It’s like OOO! Another one is curry.

How do you judge a person?

I don’t judge people. Unless in my culture, we do judge people with their makeups like if they put WAAAY too many makeups or did not fit with their skin tone color. That it.

What’s the most annoying noise?

The sirens in general and cockroaches. One time, I asked my mom what is that noise? She asked what noise? That ticking or ee-ing thing. Mom said oh, that’s cockroaches. You can hear that?! She said, yeah! I can hear that. It’s gross. Mom asked, can you hear them overnight? She said, no thank god. I took off my hearing aids when I sleep.

What food do you crave most often?

Obviously, sushi.

What is your sign?

Virgo. You know. VIRGO! (fist in the air)

But people don’t know that.

What are you currently worried about?

About my recent surgery and my health.

If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator?

Points at me. (I laugh then a straight face). HAHA.

At this point, I ran out of questions and time. I had to get ready for work. Let me know who you want me to interview and I can try my best to interview that person in person or possibly in face time. So far, I am liking how this interview turns out when I added the action and expression in it. It shows her personality and the vibe of the interview, hahaha. Anyways, catch a glimpse of Haya later!

Thoughts of Moving Out

Inside the world of my thoughts.

“Shiet.”

“Think positive. Everything will be alright.”

“I’m moving out for some good reasons: saving money, helping out my parents, focusing more on what I need to do for myself.”

“Eh, it’s not a bad idea.”

“Eh, maybe it is. At some point, I’ll suffocate.”

“AHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhahahhhhhhhhhhhhh.”

“What about my freedom/my independence?”

“I’m going to miss driving everywhere every time I’m craving for food.”

Looking around the living room and see Lance in his own little world on the floor.

Awh, I’m going to miss Lance and his weirdness. Look at his long legs!”

“I’m going to miss this huge space. Coz’ I know it’ll be small when I move in back home.”

Fake crying on that thought.

“What about my work? Gotta think about the miles and hours.”

“At least, I got some excuse to stay longer or sleepover.” “Pothativeth thinkink.”

“Meh, at least I only work in the afternoon every day. Should be fine.”

“Well, during night time…Probably going wait until the traffic wind down.”

“I think I have a lot of things to bring.”

“My parents need to get rid of a lot of things before I bring them down there.”

“I need to donate most of my clothes. I don’t even wear half of my closet.”

I started making a list of what to do.

“I need to reserve a u-haul. I need to ask my boss for a request day off.”

“I need to start saving more money instead of buying food…Should I get acai bowl, though? That sounds actually pretty good right now…”

“I need to start organizing my shit especially things that I don’t even use at all.”

“I need to remind my roommates about the day I’ll be moving out.”

“Mama needs to get rid of her scrubs or send it to the Philippines.”

“I need to get my shiet and life together.”

I got distracted.

“What should I eat before work?”

“I want spam and egg with rice…”

“Why I have so many books in the storage?”

“Should I stop by Targets?”

“I need to finish this level on Genies & Gems game.”

“I honestly don’t think I have a lot of things from here…Seriously…Maybe…”

Burp.

“Excuse me.”

Stay tuned for a glimpse of Haya 🙂
